Aquatic Supervision Policy

Watch Around Water @ Bluewater

At Bluewater Leisure Centre, we are passionate and proud to promote active supervision of children when they are near or in water. As part of our efforts to promote active supervision we subscribe to the Life Saving Victoria's Watch Around Water Aquatic Supervision policy.

The Watch Around Water campaign is about educating the public to provide active supervision, and encourages parents/guardians to take on the responsibility of this role while visiting aquatic facilities.

Our sole aim is to have zero fatal and non-fatal drowning incidents and associated injuries in our aquatic facilities.

To achieve this we cannot rely solely on our Pool Lifeguards. We kindly ask that parents/guardians abide by our Watch Around Water guidelines.

Mandatory and Enforced Policies at Bluewater

  • Must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible parent/guardian and must be constantly and actively supervised during recreational play within arms reach.

  • Parent/guardian must be in the water with their child.

Children under 10 years old

  • Must be accompanied into the centre by a responsible parent/guardian and must be constantly and actively supervised.

  • The parent/guardian must be positioned to have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child/children.

  • Parents must be prepared to get into the water if needed.

  • All children under 10 years and over 5 years will be given a yellow wristband upon entry. This will assist lifeguards to identify children that should be within arms reach from their parent/guardian or receiving constant and active supervision from parent/guardian.

Children over 10 years old

  • For children 10 years and older, parents must use their knowledge of the child’s swimming ability and general development to determine the level of accompaniment required.
